King Of Donair

King Of Donair (Pizza, 6420 Quinpool), visited October 30. KOD brought back the Garlie Burger for Burger Week and it was exactly what we expected – a serving of luscious donair meat crammed between two wedges of garlic fingers. M doesn’t care for donair sauce so we asked for it on the side. She fared just fine, as the grease made it moist enough to be enjoyable. J, meanwhile, enjoyed having the sauce all to himself. This was our fourth and final stop of our Burger Week mini marathon that day, because what good adventure doesn’t conclude with a donair at 3:00 (…PM, because we’re old)? Verdict: 3.5/5 (70%) chance of returning.

Battery Park

Battery Park (Pub, 62 Ochterloney), visited October 30. Simply put, their Burger Week special (Out-'N'-In Jughead) tasted like a fancy Big Mac – and that’s not a bad thing! (Would you believe M has never had a Big Mac? Seriously!) A mustard-cooked cheese burger with veggies and special sauce, it was a decent size, yet we still crushed it in seconds. And wanted seconds. Verdict: 4/5 (80%) chance of returning.

Doolittle’s

Doolittle’s (Pub, 90 Tacoma), visited October 30. The Burger Week special (Doo' Mexicano Burger) didn’t taste particularly Mexican, but it was pretty good. The bun was way bigger than the burger, but the whole production was hot, fresh, tasty, and we particularly enjoyed the hot peppers. Verdict: 3.5/5 (70%) chance of returning.

Staggers

Staggers (Pub, 26 Portland), visited October 30. This Burger Week offering was too unique to ignore. The Pasta Plate Pounder featured spaghetti, sauce, bread crumbs, cheese and garlic mashed together and deep fried to serve as the bun, with a flattened meatball as the burger. It looked really cool and was very tasty, but it was virtually impossible to eat on the go – it exploded after just one bite. An amazing concept, just use a knife and fork and you’re set! Verdict: 4/5 (80%) chance of returning.

Piatto

Piatto (Italian, 1299 Hollis), visited October 27. J joined his colleagues for a Burger Week bite. Piatto is known for their pizza, and it felt wrong to visit without ordering it, but The Napolitano “pizza burger” sounded too good to pass up. A cheeseburger topped with pizza sauce, fried pepperoni, basil aioli and some veggies on top of an incredible bun made out of their signature pizza dough. It’s clear that Italian cuisine is their forte, and this burger was SUPER salty, but it was a valiant effort. Verdict: 4.5/5 (90%) chance of returning.

Clay West Bar & Grill

Clay West Bar & Grill (Pub, 120 Susie Lake), visited October 24. We dashed in for the Burger Week special: The Smoky Bacon Cheddar Burger. It was on the smaller side, but very good. We really liked the zesty dusting on top of the bun, and the delicious “loco” BBQ sauce. Verdict: 3.5/5 (70%) chance of returning.
