Salty’s

Salty’s (Seafood, 1877 Upper Water), visited June 18. M’s mom was in town and wanted to dine on a downtown patio, so we headed to Salty’s and nabbed a great table right by the water. We started with the brie in puff pastry, which was good but small – a common theme on the day. M went for the fish & chips while her mom tried the and crab cakes. J doesn’t eat seafood so his menu options were limited, but he did just fine with the crispy fried chicken burger. We were all still a little hungry at the end of the meal, but we enjoyed the food and the ambiance. Verdict: 3.5/5 (70%) chance of returning.

Vines Pasta Grill

Vines Pasta Grill (Italian, 4 Panavista), visited May 20. We’d seen Vines many times during our pilgrimages to a certain fabulous discount grocer, but never had the opportunity to visit. On our way to a nearby gathering, we made a point to stop by and check it out. We tried the Tour of Italy for a sample of their lasagna, chicken parmesan and fettucine alfredo. They were all good, but a little small. The house pizza featured avocado, prosciutto, goat cheese and tomato – not a mix we’d normally pick, but when in Rome…erm…Dartmouth? Not sure we’d order avocado on a pizza again, but it was ok. In all, we’re glad we gave it a try, but it had downtown prices without a downtown location or ambiance. Verdict: 2.5/5 (50%) chance of returning.

2022 Burger Bash Special

Burger Week moved back to its usual springtime schedule, rebranded (to Burger Bash) and expanded to a full 10 days. Unfortunately, this wasn’t like Burger Weeks of yesteryear when you could go on pilgrimages and fill up on cheap & fun burgers – the price points have increased pretty much across the board, which is a sign of the times. Still, we enjoyed the following selection of offerings:

King Of Donair (Pizza, 6420 Quinpool), visited May 6. It just wouldn’t be Burger Week…erm…Bash without a Garlie Burger. Donair meat crammed between two wedges of garlic fingers is always a good time! Verdict: 3.5/5 (70%) chance of returning.
