Cheachies (Mexican, 102 Chain Lake), visited October 6. Among the best Tex-Mex in Halifax. The Barbacoa flautas were good, as were the Chicken Tinga and Carnitas tacos. The highlight was the Chicken Enchiladas. The portion sizes were very reasonable and the service was great; it’s just a shame this place is so hidden at the far end of Bayers Lake, as it would surely be busier were it in a more populated spot. Verdict: 4/5 (80%) chance of returning.
Sam’s Pizza (Pizza, 255 S Foord, Stellarton), visited October 2. M had never tried Pictou County pizza before, and a friend with roots in the area recommended Sam’s, so we stopped in to give it a whirl. The Greek Village salad was extremely generous and offered about a pound of feta. The pepperoni pizza was ok, but M found the brown sauce tasted kinda like gravy. The star of the show was the Meat Lovers sub. Yummy! Verdict: 4/5 (80%) chance of returning.
Tom’s Pizza (Pizza, 464 Chebucto, Baddeck), visited October 2. The sign on the building claims “The best pizza any way you slice it,” to which we say “Nope.” Although it would have fared well on the price scale of our Peninsula Pizza Project, it was quite small and not very tasty. Verdict: 1/5 (20%) chance of returning.
