The Cannery (Casual Dining, 1980 Robie), visited May 6. A Canadian Whisky & Beer Burger as on the menu for Burger Bash. Although it didn’t taste particularly boozy, the BBQ sauce was delightful, the onion rings were great, and the whole thing was just a great production. And for $8, it was incredible value. Verdict: 4.5/5 (90%) chance of returning.
Cheeky Neighbour (Diner, 6024 Quinpool), visited May 6. For the Burger Bash, they offered a Hot Honey Popcorn Chicken sandwich. Yes, you read that correctly. The chicken had an enjoyable spicy honey glaze, and there was popcorn on the burger which added a unique, subtle crunch. The Animal Style fries were covered in cheese sauce, pickles, onions and sauce, but were overwhelmingly messy and not particularly good. The burger, on the other hand, was well worth the visit. Verdict: 4/5 (80%) chance of returning.
Kempster’s (Diner, 3644 Kempt), visited May 3. Their Burger Bash offering was a Carnival Burger, akin to something you might find at a state fair. Deep fried pickles, onion rings and mozza sticks on a burger. What’s not to like? We also tacked on the poutine (which was fine) and the taco salad (also good). Verdict: 4/5 (80%) chance of returning.
